Data Spaces Blueprint v2.0 - Home

Welcome to the Blueprint for Data Spaces
provided by the European Data Spaces Support Center.

As Europe moves towards a federated, interoperable, and trusted data economy, the Blueprint for Data Spaces serves as a vital guide for organizations building and participating in data spaces. These guidelines aim to achieve three things:

  1. Accelerate and get to a ‘higher flight level’ more quickly: We aim to speed up the development and growth of data spaces by providing standards and best practices. We want to provide you with common ground so you can focus on the business challenges relating to your particular domain or initiative, instead of having to focus on underlying technical and operational challenges.

  2. Protect investments: Setting up a data space and developing the necessary technology can be costly. The Blueprint enables you to make informed choices and increase your market reach.

  3. Facilitate interoperability: Many organisations need to join multiple data spaces, and individual data spaces need to collaborate in different regions and industries. We want to facilitate such collaborations.

Whether you are a business looking to expand data-driven services, a public institution ensuring data sovereignty, or a technology provider building interoperable solutions, the Blueprint offers structured guidance for success

Where to Start?

Start reading our introduction, which contains the key concepts for data spaces.
If you are new to data spaces or want a renewed insight into how everything fits together, you should start with our introduction. Here, we define the key concepts within a data space and provide links to our glossary. We also stress the importance of cross-data space interoperability.

Use the co-creation method to guide you through the Blueprint.
When setting up a data space initiative, visit the section that describes our co-creation method. This method will guide you through our Blueprint in a structured way, helping you make informed choices.

Read about our building blocks.
We have clustered the capabilities of data spaces in so-called ‘building blocks’. There are eight building blocks for business and organisational capabilities and nine building blocks for technical capabilities. In each building block, we describe the required capabilities and the common methods, approaches, and standards that apply. If you want to find out more about a specific topic, you can go directly to our building blocks section.

Use our DSSC Toolbox.
Tools and services are necessary for implementing data spaces that adhere to the Blueprint's specifications. We have collected them in our DSSC Toolbox, which is growing and will evolve over time; we welcome submissions of new tools!

Work with Us

The Data Spaces Support Center (DSSC) is a coordination and support action under the Digital Europe Programme of the European Union. We bring together data space enthusiasts from many different initiatives, particularly the Common European Data Spaces, which are being deployed in various sectors.

This section covers our overall plan, the heartbeat of our Blueprint, and how you can participate. Join our network of data space pioneers. Whether you’re launching a new initiative or integrating into existing ecosystems, we welcome your contributions and collaboration."
